چکیده

Two well-posed non-reflecting boundary conditions of PML type for the linearized Euler equations are examined and compared. The efficiency of these boundary conditions are evaluated for circular waves as well as plane waves with different angles of incidence, and the results are compared with characteristic boundary conditions as a reference. Acknowledgments First I would like to thank my supervisor, Gunilla Kreiss, for her skillful guidance and insightful comments and advice, Daniel Apellö, who could not have helped me more, Olof Runborg who answered my questions patiently , and Jesper Oppelstrup, who introduced this subject to me. I would also like to thank all my friends at NADA, especially Yuan Lin and Anna Dzougoutov who helped me alot. Last I would like to thank my family, especially my mother, Parvaneh, who her encouragement was the main reason to complete this thesis.

Studies on the Transition of the Flow Oscillations over an Axisymmetric Open Cavity Model

Computations and experimental validation were conducted to obtain flow field over an axisymmetric cavity with different front wall inclinations at a freestream Mach number of 2.0. Flow oscillation in and around the cavities may incur a damaging effect on the stable flight of the aircraft and store releases. Aero-acoustic from the oscillating flow induces vibration in the local bay structure and...

The Analysis and Construction of Perfectly Matched Layers for the Linearized Euler Equations

We present a detailed analysis of a recently proposed perfectly matched layer (PML) method for the absorption of acoustic waves. The split set of equations is shown to be only weakly well-posed, and ill-posed under small low order perturbations. This analysis provides the explanation for the stability problems associated with the spilt field formulation and illustrates why applying a filter has...

A Few Words on Our New Format

Solving aero-acoustic or electromagnetic wave-dominated problems often requires finding accurate infinite domain solutions on a finite computational domain. One way of accomplishing this is to formulate absorbing boundary conditions through the technique of perfectly matched layers (PML). We discuss recent developments of PML methods for the absorption of acoustic waves in homogeneous mean flow...

Application of Cagniard de Hoop Method to the Analysis of Perfectly Matched Layers

Abstract: We show how Cagniard de Hoop method can be used, first to obtain error estimates for the Perfectly Matched Layers in acoustics (PML), then to understand the instabilities of the PML when applied to aeroacousics. The principle of the methods consists in applying to the equations a Laplace transform in time and a Fourier transform in one space variable to obtain an ordinary differential...
